WOOL GARMENT CARE
According
to Pendelton Woolens, a premier manufacturer of woolen garments,
washing a wool garment that has been labeled "dry clean" can
result in noticeable shrinkage and a loss of fabric smoothness.
Pendelton recommends drycleaning for all woolen garments because this
care method is best for retaining the size, color and appearance of the
garment.
It
is also important to recognize that shrinkage may occur in woven wool
if washed. This damage is irreversible due to the overlapping scales
that become interlocked from exposure to moisture, heat and
agitation. According to Pendeltons technical experts, attempts to
forcefully stretch shrunken wools can weaken and damage the fabric. The
only possible exception to this information is in the case of knitted
sweaters, where professional wetcleaning can often compensate by
tensioning and blocking a sweater, that has not been fully damaged,
back to size.
In any case, we always take great pride in selecting the
right care method for all of your fine garments.
